"Persistence: The Hidden Secret Of
Your Weight Loss Success"
It occurred to me one day why persistence is such an overlooked and underrated
ingredient in weight loss success. So I looked at the philosophy I've
used to make successful change sin my own life.
My own personal reasoning goes like this:
If you fail 9 out of the first 10 times you try, and then you fail
8 out of the next 10 times you try, and then you fail only 7 out of
the third 10 times you try, are you moving in the right direction?
If you keep doing that, do you think you will get to a point when you
succeed more times than you fail?
And will you ultimately get to a point where success becomes the norm,
and failure the rare exception? If you do get to that point, will your
problem then be behind you?
Well that's all you're really doing.
What you need is to be clear enough about the goal, clear enough about
why you want to get there so that you can stop operation primarily on
unconsciously-triggered automatic motivations where the outcome will
be self-destructive, and start operating on conscious, deliberately-chosen
motivations where the outcome will clearly be desirable.
That one single shift will take you—in time—from net failure
to net success, which is all you really need. All you need to do is
to be willing to stay with it, to keep from condemning yourself for
the inevitable interim failures, and to focus on your gradually increasing
success.
In time, your mindset will change, your attitude will change, and your
weight will change. With your commitment, your ever-increasing self-
awareness, and your ever-growing self-reverence, your success will be
inevitable.
This is exactly how I have eliminated my own self-sabotaging beliefs
and attitudes in the past, how I do it now, and how I will continue
to do it in the future.
The only real failure is quitting—which for me, simply isn't
an option.
As Peter Frampton asked us all, "Do you feel like I do?"
