"The
Top 20 Barriers To
Weight Loss Success"
Here are 20 potential barriers that may right now be standing between
you and weight loss success. There are others that aren't on this list.

Any one of these barriers could be
enough to keep you from winning at weight loss. Therefore you
MUST be aware that they exist, and know how to spot them and how to
deal with them.
Each of the barriers is followed by (in italics) a brief description
of the best way to approach or deal with this barrier so that you
can ultimately remove it from your path.
1. Limiting / self-defeating beliefs.
(Success Factor #1) Identify your problem belief(s) and
replace them.
2. A corrupted self-image. (Success Factor
#2) Identify your problem beliefs. Then identify, accept,
embrace all the things about you that are wonderful excellent, and
admirable.
3. An impaired "DQ" [deservability
quotient]. (Success Factor #3) Identify your problem
beliefs, replace them with ones that recognize, affirm, and support
your innate worthiness.
4. Looking for external solutions (Success
Factor #4) Rid yourself forever of the notion that any
force or factor outside yourself determines what you can be, do, or
have.
5. Habitual inactivity, absence of movement
or exercise. (Success Factor #5) Get moving!
6. Feeling depressed (Success Factor #6)
Get a less narrow view of your circumstances, and focus on the "big
picture." Watch your thoughts! Get professional help if depression
persists.
7. Coming out / staying out of denial.
Be willing to explore yourself fearlessly and then to embrace what
you discover. All negativity is learned and can be unlearned.
8. Learned bad habits related to eating, thinking, etc.
Ex: Programmed to clean your plate. Stop rewarding self-destructive
behavior, reward ONLY supportive thoughts, words, actions. [Why are
children's undesirable behaviors so persistent? Because we rewarded
them with attention.]
9. A lifetime of exposure to misinformation
and backward priorities. Be willing to seriously consider
alternative solutions. Know what "trumps" what in life's creative
order.
10. Your own inner resistance to change.
(ego's attachment to the status quo) - Reward all victories
and progress, no matter how trivial they may seem to your conscious
mind. Again, NEVER reward what you don't want, especially with your
emotional attention.
11. Fear (of being physically
smaller, of being more attractive, of what other people think, have
thought, or will think). Get beyond "The Tyranny Of OPO" (other
people's opinions.).
12. Boredom - leading to eating
just to be doing something. Do something else--anything else!
13. Compensatory eating. (Your
life doesn't seem very sweet, so you eat something that is.- Your
life feels empty so you eat to fill the void.- Your want more love
and food is as close as you think you can get. What are you trying
to compensate for? Very important to know. Then see how you can get
that need met in a non-food-oriented way.
14. Your own impatience based on
your unrealistic conscious expectations, which then creates stress
which you respond to by eating. Patience! Let go the need for
instant success or results.
15. Years of momentum in the wrong
direction. Again, be patient! Real changes take a bit of
time.
16. Self-defeating self-talk.
Monitor it constantly, correct it instantly. Extremely important!
17. Control / authority issues -
knee-jerk opposition to new / better information. Get over it...or
stay stuck forever.
18. Integrity issues - failure
to keep promises to self / others. Understand the true cost to
yourself. Your own word must become as good as gold, or you can
never trust yourself.
19. Honesty issues - fear of
telling the truth to self / others. Get in touch w your courage. Do
what needs to be done and say what needs to be said. You will
definitely survive the truth.
20. Habitual negativity - being
on "auto-pilot" to be negative. Recognize it as a personal pattern,
spot it when it happens, replace it with something positive fast!
